I found this in a forum:
"This makes sense.. The Chinese and Japanese drink hot tea with their meals...not cold water...maybe it is time we adopt their drinking habit while eating!
Nothing to lose, everything to gain...
For those who like to drink cold water, this article is applicable to you. It is nice to have a cup of cold drink after a meal. However, the cold water will solidify the oily stuff that you have just consumed. It will slow down the digestion. Once this 'sludge' reacts with the acid, it will break down and be absorbed by the intestine faster than the solid food. It will line the intestine.
Very soon, this will turn into fats and lead to cancer. It is best to drink hot soup or warm water after a meal."
(Thanks to the author of this tip)

There may be something to it.

Although not qualified to give you a professional answer, I can tell you from experience that my mother was diagnosed with heart problems when she was forty seven, and spent many weeks in hospital.
Her doctor recommended she drank a cup of warm water every morning, as this would help. No real reason was ever given, and she still has heart problems, but is an active eighty four year old now, and still drinking a cup of warm water every morning,
Maybe it does work, I think it must, and mum certainly believes in it.

Having lived in the east for many years, I can say that they don't drink warm water primarily to prevent heart attacks. In fact, many would be surprised to learn that it is purported to do so. Many orientals drink warm water rather than cold water because of their ying-yang view of foods. Cold is seen as adding ying and is usually not desirable when it comes to digestion. Also cold tea does not go well with many eastern foods. But they do drink cold drinks with their foods - beers, juices.
The whole things is one of those 'urban myths'. There is no scientific support for the idea.

What you fail to understand is that the body works to either warm or cool liquids to body temperature by the time it reaches the small intestine. Therefore, whether or beverage is hot or cold it will all be the same temperature long before it leaves the stomach.

Remember, There are many factors that make up this prevention. By following the advice of medical professionals, you will benefit more.
It would not hurt to add it to what you are already doing.

This may be true but I have never heard of it. My DR told my husband to take 1 - 81mg aspirin every morning to prevent heart attack and stroke. They run in his family. They make an adult low dose 81 mg. aspirin. You can get it in a generic at anywhere for a very low price. It's worth doing if you can tolerate aspirin. Good Luck.

of course it's not true! this is totally insane! for example... slowing down what empties from the stomach is actually much healthier because the slower food leaves your stomach the less fluctuations there will be in your blood sugar. over the course of years that would help keep your vascular system in much better shape. the newest diabetic meds slow food from leaving the stomach. that is just one response to this...i could go on for a couple thousand words. do some research!

It takes more than just warm water in your diet to prevent heart attacks. You cannot compare the effect it has with a diet which is so different to our own...a Japanese diet is inherently more healthy than a Western one!;
