It means that if you want to be smart, you have to get an education and have life experiences. We learn from our mistakes as well. Waiting around for good luck doesn't get you very far.

You'll never learn about the real world by luck. In example, let's say you have never worked a day on your life, and you inherit one hundred million dollars from someone in your family. You can have everything you'll ever need, but you won't have the knowledge of how to earn money because you never had to.

Wisdom isn't a fluke nor is the same as luck. Wisdom is knowledge that does not have to take chances.

Getting an education doesn't necessarily make you "lucky". Take it from me. Most educational institutions are FOR-PROFIT, meaning once they get your tuition money, they couldn't give a schit about you.
