It depends - if you are an independent and strong-minded individual you might not feel as though you are missing anything by not having a girlfriend. Someone will come along when you least expect it - enjoy life and take each twist and turn as it comes.

This is a question that you should have asked yourself first and then given it a serious thought to find the correct answer.
Some people feel comfortable in the midst of other people. Some are comfortable with just themselves. Both categories of people are perfectly normal. You have confessed to being in the second category. But after seeing your friends flaunting their girl friends, you seem to be in some doubt about yourself. No problem about that either. Befriend a girl and ascertain for yourself as to how comfortable you feel in her company and decide accordingly. Your mind will tell you what you really want. Not Yahoo! Answers.

Resist the pressure to jump into the whole girlfriend/boyfriend thing. It is really, really messed up in our society. Being single is being happy until you are established. Dont worry about missing "the right person". There is no such thing. There are many girls who are compatable to you and vice versa.
If and when the time comes to link up with someone, you will know it. Otherwise dont worry about it, and above all, DONT FORCE IT!
Aside to any matchmakers out there; STOP MEDDLING! Take up a useful hobby instead, like knitting, electronics, pottery or vandalism.

A girl friend is a girl- in other words a human being and not a mobile phone. Girl friends can be one's greatest emotional strength and at the same time the sweet poison. So do not immitate others. It is ok to have a new mobile phone juts because the other person has that but not a girl friend. You will surely find your own and be proud of her in due course of time

No, not at all. It is not a tradition to have a girl friend at the age of studying. One can have good friends, either girl or boy, but not specifically only a girl friend, that too for a reason that others are having. It will be like fox putting on its body stripes with heated iron rod by looking at tiger. Be a good student, good son, that is enough for your mother I think.

You can be happy whether you have a gf or not... And its not like you have to marry the girl. If you find someone worth spending alot of time with, try a relationship. If it doesnt work, then be single again!

Unless you are gay or you have no feelings for people, it is quite normal to want to have a girlfriend. Eventually you may want someone to share a life with. I suspect you want to be a player though. Over time, that lifestyle gets old.
