You cannot copyright an idea without an implementation plan for that idea.

Example :
I have an idea for a software program that can accurately predict the weather. Can I copyright that idea ?
No.
What I can copyright is the code used to write the program. I cannot stop others from using that idea to write their own program.

You must prove that you are actually able to make it work.

A patent or copyright cannot be obtained based on an mere idea or suggestion. The inventor must supply a complete description of how the invention is implemented.

Hmm, i'm not sure about copyrighting an "idea" specially for software applications, unless of course you create the application first.

I mean if this is the case, then everyone who had a good idea for an invention (and i mean idea only and no prototype) would have patented it... but hey, i could be wrong...
