My friend was convicted of a felony 30 years ago. Now everytime he tries to get a good job, the criminal backround check comes back with this on it and they have to let him go. Is there any place he can go to see about what can be done about this so the poor guy can remain working without the fear of this piece of paper coming back and he is out of work again. Please Help!!!!!!!!!!!

Look at the problem in the face. A frontal attack in my opinion is the most appropriate. It may seem a strange way for a solution, but make a complete disclosure, like an advertisement in the newspapers about the past and of your friend having done his time and now a reformed man. Many would appreciate this kind of honesty. On the other hand, you could meet the parish priest or elders of your community, and get letters of recommendation, or you can say character certificates.

Well now today it is very hard to get a job. I mean my mom is a convicted felon and she can't keep a job either. It is hard. Sometimes you just have to lie and hope they don't do a background check or just have your friend expalin the felony and how long ago it was. There is really nothing that can be done to help. Once you have a felony you have to struggle to survive

If he is honest up front about the conviction and puts it on the application with details, he much more likely to get a job and hold on to it. Being dishonest on the application is really what he is being fired for. I wouldn't have a problem hiring someone who was honest about a conviction that was so long ago.

He can petition the court for a pardon, if he has no other convictions and it has been 30 years then he might get it.

Sounds like a good motivator to be self employed...With the jail industry there are alot of folks out there with records now.. I wish him luck.
