Atlanta International Raceway 1965. The line up included Darrell Derringer on the front row with his monster '64 Mercury Marauder, with another Merc alongside him. I think it was Parnelli Jones. The first lap was impressive, with the roar of those 7 liter engines at full throttle. Memory is dimmed by time, but behind the Mercurys were '65, '64, '63 Fords, Chevy's, a Dodge or two and a Chrysler. A.J. Foyt drove a '64 Ford. Johnny Rutherford was a rookie driving a '62 Chevy. When they went down the back straight they sounded like a squadron of P-51 Mustangs on their way to war over Europe.
That moment will stick with me for a long time.
Ned Jarrett won the race by not crashing while everybody else was. It was a wild day.

Talladega and Bristol were great but the best time was first row seats at the start-finish line at the Brickyard 400 in I think 98 or 99 when Jeff Gordon won. My son was five and it was his first race. He loved it - of course he rooted for Terry Labonte because of the Kellog's race colors. It was the first race my wife had been to as well as my son so it was a great memory for all of us. I also managed to get an actual racing tire from Dale Sr.'s car that day by hanging around the garage area and begging. We got front row seats and a garage pass thanks to a friend who was in the marketing department for Ken Schrader's race team. Some great memories.

I've had a lot of good moments at the tracks..but I can honestly say my best one was at Michigan.. not anything imparticular about the actual race..but it was a blast. Me and a few members of my family (including my Grampa) went..and we just had so much fun together.
But for the most part..anytime I get to hear those engines fire up in person I pretty much flip out, LOL!!

I was at the 1993 Bristol race that took place just three days after Alan Kulwicki died in a plane crash on his way to the track.
First of all, Bristol is a great experience. I've been to races there many times. 40 cars on a half-mile track with 30-degree banked turns. The action is non-stop.
There was a moving tribute to start the race, and then it all came down to Ernie Irvan and Rusty Wallace, racing side by side through the final laps. Wallace won, and then he spun his car around and took Kulwicki's famous "Polish victory lap" around the track in the opposite direction. I mean to tell you, there was not a dry eye in the house. Grown men broke down weeping.
It was memorable.

I go to the Texas race every year and my favortie moments are all of them, the spectacle of the event it is simply AWESOME, 500 miles of kick a.s.s. door and bumber banging at 200 hundred miles per-hour not only that but the awesome tailgating parties before and after the race. We make a whole weekend out of it, me and my closest friends .
We always sit on the front strech at the end of pit road so we get to see all the pitstops. Most of the good crashes. So I cant really pick out one momment, they are all good, much better than any football, baseball, basketball or any other event that you think of.
As I have been to em' all and nothing compares to the GREATEST SPORT on EARTH NASCARRRRRRRR, and for all you who question it as a true sport then I would love to see you get out there and try to drive 200 mph for 500 miles with 43 other cars with in a matter of inches from each other in 100+ degree temprutares, for 36 races a year you wouldnt last one lap much less 500 miles, not only do you have to be in great physical condition you have to have good head on your shoulders, unlike these d.a.m.n idiots that play football or basketball whom are always in trouble with the law . These guys are most definetly athletes.
And haul A.S.S. Tony the Smoke Stewart !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Going to the Daytona 500 and seeing Jr. win. That was my first race and everything I had heard about the 500 was true and then some. Watching him celebrate with his crew in the tri oval a year after Sr. died was awesome. Every NASCAR fan needs to go to Daytona at least once in their life.
Of course the tailgating at every race I go to is a great memory...a bit fuzzy but great.

The november race at Texas Motor Speedway.....Stewart won and climbed the fence right in front of me. That was awsome, but going to the pits and getting close to the cars and drivers is so much fun. I wish that one of these times I could get a hot pass for the race!!!
