My 9 yr old English Springer Spaniel has recently shown a most peculiar behaviour - he has been bringing into the house bits of his own (or my other dog's) excrement (thankfully solid pieces) and chews (or eats, I can't tell) them. He has never shown such bad habit in all the years as he is completely house trained with ready access to the backyard round the clock. Any comments with suggestions of what to do will be most welcomed. Thank you.

Some dogs eat their own stools as a way of conserving enzymes which are in short supply. Other dogs will eat horse manure, cow manure and dog and cat feces, because they taste good to your dog.

there is not any authentic rhyme or reason as to why dogs eat feces. you may attempt meat tenderizer on your puppy's food--that is meant to make the feces "undesirable" notwithstanding it would not continuously artwork. a thanks to end your puppy from eating feces is %. up the feces correct way.

Usually when a dog starts eating feces, the dog has worms. Please take him to your vet for a check up.
