I have never heard of any harm coming from using cinnamon frequently, and many cultures use cinnamon on a daily basis. The health properties of cinnamon are amazing, and you would only benefit from using it frequently.

Cinnamon is good for you... I'm not aware of any health drawbacks. It's good for the digestive system and high in antioxidants.

But, if you live in the United States or Canada, chances are you've never actually had cinnamon. You've had a cheaper imitation called Cassia.

Cassia apparently works wonders for diabetes, and there are indications that it helps lower your blood pressure and control the sugar and fat levels in your bloodstream.

However, it contains some coumarin, which is a toxin. And it's a possibility that some compounds in cassia can build up to dangerous levels in your body, but that's not known for sure.

So... if you live outside the U.S. or Canada, you're probably okay because you're eating real cinnamon. If you live inside the U.S. or Canada, you shouldn't use tons of it because you're probably eating cassia.

If you're that concerned, don't buy the stuff that's labeled as "Cinnamon"; buy "Saigon Cinnamon" and/or "Indonesian Cinnamon." They have a cinnamon-like taste, but they aren't cassia and aren't known to have the same health risks.

I have never heard that it is bad to use it frequently. I use it whenever I deem it necessary. I like it best with ginger in hot apple cider.
