I think we are fully aware illegal immigration is more important then American Idol. However, American Idol is so much more fun to watch. Its something we can laugh at and enjoy where as illegal immigration is a serious issue that needs to be properly addressed.

Most Americans do understand. Most states have taken steps to limit services available to illegals and most polls reflect that 2/3 of the voters consider illegal immigration a serious problem.
The media and some politicians don't want to be honest about illegal immigration. Both have placed their perspective and ideas ahead of the good of the country. Politicians want votes, the media wants to tell you how you should think.

The American media trivializes life in these United States. Think of television as one huge marketing project and its easier to understand that TV is not a source of solid information on which to base opinions or life decisions. The news division of each network was moved in the Entertainment Section about two decades ago. Roone Arlidge who made ABC sports the leader in sports broadcasting was made News Director for ABC when it merged sports, news and entertainment. Idol is cheap to make and that is why we have reality television. A segment of Law and Order or even Friends might cost several million dollars and that eats into profits. So we have reality television which costs next to nothing to make and broadcast. Of course the unnoticed ingredient is that you have to make viewers think it is absolutely that most important thing to watch. Survivor participants, failed Idol contestants are treated like celebs, interviewed on the morning news programs and given additional appearances on other shows. THEY are CELEBS so you MUST watch them. And of course buy stuff in the ads. There are people who used to adamantly claim that television violence has no impact on the youth of America and people would chant that response whenever that subject came up. If young people won't mimic what they see on teleivion then why do clothing companies, cell phones, cars, etc advertise as intensely as they do and why do shows target certain age groups? Because television is really a merge of propabanda and marketing and people don't really notice it because they have been conditioned to lay down and take it. So yeah, people don't pay attention to important issues because the media not so subtly dummies down everything so serious thought is not necessary. Its a good question and I hope my answer helps.

I don't watch, nor do I care anything about American Idol. But I do care deeply about illegal aliens in my country.I am active in many groups and organizations who have but one goal and that is to secure our nations borders and begin the systematic deportation of each and every illegal alien. It doesn't matter where they are from, what color they are or how much of a better life they are seeking.I will not jeopardize my nation and my right to keep my better life.for any illegal alien, from any where.
I will not stand by and watch this great nation turned into a poverty ridden third world country. There are millions of Americans that feel just as I do about this huge problem.

Why do you bother about this aspect? America has a complete department checking on this. If you have any qualms, why don't you write to the department with your concern. They will surely reply to you and answer your questions. They do have a public relations office. I think the American Idol is a far better happenning to be involved and concerned with. Concentrate on that. It is much more interesting.

Never. Everyone wants to think everything is fine and that they live in a near-perfect world. Thus they stick their heads in their butts and pay more attention to Simon Cowell ranting about how sucky music is than what threatens their nation.
