both my mom and her father have parkinsons disease?

I have been told its not hereditary, but that it "runs in families". What does that mean?

My spouse has PD.
It does seem to run in families, but not necessarily from parents to children.
Your mum and grandfather are an uncommon case.

sorry ti hear that. is it that you wont definately get it, but its common in the family and you may do, not sure, check with dr. Best wishes
