I've been suffering from terrible headaches. Although I have tried to rest more but it doesn't help. I also find it difficult to sleep.

1. Avoid eyestrain by working in a well-lit environment and wearing glasses or contact lenses, if necessary.

2. Sleep the number of hours you need to feel rested and alert.

3. Work at an ergonomically correct workstation. Stretch frequently if your job requires you to remain seated for long periods of time.

4. Get your teeth checked regularly. Periodic headaches may be linked to a dental problem.

5. Watch what you eat. Chocolate, wine and aged cheeses can trigger headaches.

6. Avoid very cold food and beverages.

7. Manage your stress. Learn stress management techniques, get into an exercise program, or try yoga or meditation.

8. Sinus infection?

9. Drink at least eight glasses of water or other fluids a day to ward off dehydration.

10. Check your eyeglass prescription to make sure it is still correct. Or you may need glasses.

There are certain foods that tend to lead to headaches. Avoiding things like cheese; well actually, most dairy products, chocolate, Aspartame (NutraSweet), processed foods, foods with a high preservative content, foods with MSG or Hydrogenated oils. Food allergies can wreck your world. You could visit an allergist and get tested. Also, drinking plenty of water helps tremendously (dehydration as well as allergies will give you a monster headache). I use to get terrific allergy migraines and have to lay heavy books on my head for the pressure, then I just hoped I could fall asleep for awhile. I would go to an allergist for testing. And drink that water.

Sometimes headaches are a sign of dehydration - make sure you are getting plenty of liquids - preferably water. Also try to get lots of sleep, avoid too much alcohol and try to avoid stress (sometimes easier said than done!). You could always try a little light exercise like yoga and perhaps meditation would help.

headaches are hormonal/Emotional. Some are enviormental and then there are the physical.
If the skull plates ( a move able bone covering that makes up your skull) shifts and gets stuck on each other (not the most professional way of putting it) it will cause a nerve to pulse and cause a headache. one way to relieve it is a med to light separating pattern over that side of the head. Light most of the time feels better then harder stokes.

there could also be sinus pressure. gently stroke around your eyes and nose ( you are trying to break up the congestion in your sinus passages )

Keep yourself well hydrated. That means drink plain old water. Many headaches are due to low grade dehydration. Avoid alcohol beverages - Drinking alcohol dehydrates you, and that hangover headache is dehydration!

Better nutrition. Avoid junk food. Avoid fast food.

Stress is one of the leading causes of headaches. Everyone has stress, however not everyone suffers physical manifestations like headaches (throbbing migraines are a biggie I see) - it is all on how you handle the stress. Relaxing is the key, but it is much easier said than done....if you would like further direction, I would be more than happy to provide....
