Monday is my court date for careless driving in NJ. It was not a mandatory court appearance but I want to get the points deducted. It was 1:30 in the morning when I recieved my ticket...i was getting out of work. I don't have much money right now since i pay for college tution. Is it possible to ask the court to dismiss the ticket if i am willing to do community service. Also, should i bring a letter from work stating i was leaving work. Im 18 and can't afford my insurance premiums go up. Any ideas. I still don't know what I did wrong, the cop pulled me over for speeding but he didn't clock how fast I was going so he gave me a careless driving ticket...that doesn't matter right now...my problem is trying to dismiss the ticket or get rid of the point without paying a hefty fine. Never heard of community serivce for a traffic vioaltion but is it possible.

You've addressed several issues that I will respond to individually.

1. Ticket for "careless driving."

In my state you don't have to write the ticket for a specific speed, although you can...there is an additional traffic violation of "Driving without Reasonable and Prudent Speed" which does not require the officer to have a specific speed infraction.

2. Pay the Fine or..

Most courts will allow the following;

a) To pay the court costs and fines up front or request consideration of payments due to your unique circumstances of paying college tuition also. Judges like to hear where people are trying to better themselves with a good education.

b) Some courts have programs dealing with driver improvement classes that upon completion will prevent the point assessment, driving record, and court costs.

It is my suggestion that either you contact the court of which will handle your case to see what options could be offered or contact an attorney who will most likely charge you for your time.

Last option would be to appear in court and speak with the Judge explaining your circumstances to which I firmly believe he will help you as best as he can!

Best wishes!

pass to courtroom and spot in case you may plead in charge to a lesser offense. i'm beneficial the choose won't see "however the easy became yellow, no longer crimson" as a valid argument. i'm beneficial the choose might have heard that 1000's, maybe 1000's, of circumstances formerly, from different drivers who have been one hundred% beneficial that the easy became yellow and not crimson. i'm no longer calling you a liar, in many situations the easy in all hazard became yellow by ability of the time you went interior the direction of the intersection.
