western religion would say that the Dweller is immortal, but buried so deep that we are, generally, unaware of it...it's presence is betrayed, however, in our use of language. it's MY body...MY brain...use of possessive terms is evidence to some that something is possessing...
eastern religions, such as Buddhism, would say we are immortal, but there is no common thread to bind our lives together. a soul implies continuity...Buddha likened rebirth to a flame moved from candle to candle. the first candle ignites the second when it goes out...are the two flames, in fact, one and the same? their source is but there is no actual connection between the two.
it depends on your perspective, i suppose
