How long are we talking here? My own hair is just past my butt, and I like to experiment with various styles. A few favorites of mine are:
1) French braiding either all or part of the hair.
2) A ribbon woven into a braid; once again, either all or part of.
3) A small accent braid with one of those black cord necklaces woven in (the ones that are knotted shut and just slip over your head, they usually just have one small charm dangling from them).
4) Twist it tight against the head, as though making a bun, and instead pull the ends through and tie it into a knot. Secure with anything that you want; pins, combs, chopsticks, even a scrunchy; just be sure with the latter that the tail is tucked in.

free hair with just a band is very good dont go for hair cut which those beauty parlors will advise.

my friend has the same problem. pony tails r cute, curls r adorable, if you just put your hair in rollers at night. Braids, half ponytails. hope it helps.
