If you are filing a return, then there's a line on all the various 1040 versions, down in the Payments section, to claim it.

If you aren't filing a return, then get form 1040EZ-T and fill it out - that's for people claiming the excise tax refund but not filing a return.

Don't do both.

You exceedingly lots ought to take the customarily occurring deduction. they gained't aid you e-report in case you're taking greater desirable than that. i do no longer think of you will run into lots of a difficulty no longer having your costs because of the fact the government is getting over enormous time in this one. Like yet another answer reported, many families had greater desirable than one telephone extensive style for it. I regarded at one among my cellular telephone costs from 2003 and the excise tax became $one million.fifty two. on a similar time, I had a house telephone. they are refunding 40 months of costs and the optimum is $60.00 whether you had a cellular and a house telephone or 2 cellular telephones in case you have been married. WTF?!?!?!?!?!? So, It probable would not matter, basically take the deduction because of the fact which you do no longer ought to have the actual costs to get the customarily occurring.

It is right on this year's 1040 forms (1040, 1040A and 1040EZ).

If you don't have enough income to file a tax return, there is a special return just for the phone tax refund (1040EZ-T....1040T-EZ.....I can't remember which....)
