Every 75,000 miles is the recommended time frame. Tranmission oil, as well as all oils, break down and loose their viscosity (oiliness) over time. When this happens, there is not enough lubrication between the moving parts, which will eventially cause them to freeze up, and the transmission to fail.

You should have your transmission serviced every 24,000 miles. Every 12,000 miles if do alot of heavy hauling or a lot of stop & go driving. Have it done by a reputable Dealer or Transmission shop. They can change the fluid and make the necessary adjustments. It's fairly inexpensive compared to a New transmission. Don't send a woman or anyone who doesn't know anything about cars. Nothing against women, but most don't know anything about cars. There is a lot of men that don't know anything about cars either. Also there is some good additives to help an older transmissions, after 50,000 miles. "Lucas" makes one of the best. If the transmission fluid is a brown looking color and smells like varish get the transmission serviced.

If you have and owners manual it will give you all the information in regards to maintenance. If not change fluid and filter every 30,000 miles. When you check your engine oil, check all other fluids. You should do this at least once a month. Change your engine oil every 3000 miles or every 3 to 4 months, which ever comes first. I hope this information helps you.

Ok, I have checked your answers, lots of good ones, but I have a different number, 50,000 miles and change the trans filter at the same time. If you do it yourself, It can be done for about $30. Transmission changes are over a $1000, good investment.

Typically every 30,000 miles. You can check the fluid status by pulling out a sample from the dipstick. If its black and smells like burnt metal then you'll definitely need to change it. The normal fluid color is red.
