a huge grouse flew in and startred to eat the seed it walked about the garden for about 5 mins then a cat tried to catch it (no luck) eventually it flew away d'you think this was a one off thing maybe it got lost or should i try and encourage it to come back what do they like to eat any ideas.

Hello Mea....How lovely it is for you to have the wildlife like squirrels and birds in your garden. It seems that you have adapted a natural habitat for wildlife. Dont worry if a grouse paid a visit it probably was a one off but if you wanted it to come back..put some more of seed in a net mesh bag and hang it up and where the cat cant get to it.

grouse r common birds in countryside they no harm but they also eat plants too so be aware if you have any plants in your garden they will eat them, so best not to encourage it as once you do it keep coming back again and again, grouse eat bird seed or bellets

Apparently it was looking for seeds, perhaps sprinkle some around the ground were it is easier for it to get. Nice addition to your feeders.

It depends what part of the country you are. If it's very cold it might be harder to find food. I might come back if it remembers where it was. but if there are predators there it might not come back anyway.

probably will come back they are opportunistic feeders like most wildlife try milo or sunflower seeds
