hi there, has anyone make colored sugar?
I thought of using our favorite cherry flavored jello mix, add it to sugar in baggie, shake, see, but thought maybe it could clump up...
I am open for suggestions, thanks and happy valentine's day

You can buy already red sugar sprinkles at the store. OR you can take sugar, put it in a baggie again, add red food dye then shake & knead it until completely colored. It may turn out pink at first but then you just however many more tries with the food dye that you need to get it shade of red you want. Have fun & good luck!

Just add red food coloring to regular granulated sugar, in a plastic bag and mix well. The coloring will dye the sugar and there will be no lumps, if you use a small amount of dye.

Happy Valentine's Day to you too! You could,
A. buy red food coloring and dye your own sugar. (messy)
B. Buy like the already colored sugar
C. Just buy red sprinkles
D. This one might work, only tried it once, but you can make the dough and die that, I think that's how red velvet cake is made.
But it depends on exaactly what your baking!

Red food coloring drops might make the dough pink. It might be better to find red dye paste, usually available in the cake decorating section of craft stores like Michael's.

Now WAL-MART or the Dollar Store both have already dyed sugar. I would hate to recommend you dye your own sugar considering the risks involved. You could put to much in and then your stuck with sugar that tastes like ***. You don't want to poison your lover if you want him to be around for next year. I recommend you spend the 50 cents and buy the real thing. The next question is, what to bake?

just take some sugar and mix it with enough water to make a thick paste - not enough to go runny - then add the dye and leave it out to dry to a solid lump, then put it in a bag and it it with something hard until it turns to granuels again. it might be best to use caster sugar.
