Does anyone know roughly how long you should be taking this drug before you feel any benefit? I'm on my 3rd month now, and nothing seems to be helping. My GP says to stick with it, it can take up to 4 months......really?

Hi,
It usually takes 2 to 4 weeks. Four months is a bit long but not rare.
I would listen to your GP. He may either increase the dose or use different drug.
Don't stop the drug suddenly, it could be dangerous.
Take care

I've been on Dosulepin for a number of years now and I've found it works great for me but I don't think it took as long as 4 months to start working it was more like 4-6 weeks. I agree with the previous answers, ask your GP to perhaps try something else. It's your mental health at risk here so if you are still unhappy with your GP's decision ask for a second opinion with another GP, as far as I'm aware everyone has the right to do that.

4 months is longer than I would expect to get full benefits, 1 - 2 months is more usual. If you are still not feeling any better after the 4 months then I would suggest to talk to your doctor and ask for another medication. There are many to choose from. Sometimes it takes a little trial and error to get the right one for you;

Well it all depends on how bad your condition is and how well your body can react to the tablets, it took just short of 3 months for me but my body reacts quite quickly.
Your GP is right give it time if you still feel nothing has changed then your GP might change to to something different or stronger.

Good Luck hope you feel better.
