So a few years ago, a friend of mine told me that I should learn how to play guitar because she thinks it's sexy. About a year later, I "inadvertently" (=P) decided to take a guitar course at school, and I've been playing for two years now. I've already asked this question, but I just wanted more opinions -- I know relationships don't hinge on this factor, but what do you ladies think about guys who play guitar? Is it attractive? Is it self-conscious? 10 bonus points for the best answer. =) Little incentive there; haha.

I sing too, yes. And people tell me I'm good. =)

Mostly...you just can't lose if you can play the guitar well.

Think about it...it shows skill & dedication & creativity confidence...what's not to love?

For those brief moments you are playing you are pretty much going to seem perfect! As others have said though...this can be fleeting if you can't back it up with your own personal coolness factor.

If finding a relationship is like finding the perfect job, then most guitar guys automatically get a second interview.

I say *most* because there is one glaring exception to "the sexy guitar guy" kind of his evil nemesis...

"Mr-I-only-know-campfire-songs" as depicted by the guy in the Juicy Fruit commercials who keeps getting his guitar smashed?

SO NOT SEXY!

My boyfriend plays guitar. He doesn't as much as he used to before he met me (I'm a distraction I guess), and I remember the first time he played in front of me I was very much like, "Aww, that's so cute! Can we have sex now?" He plays acoustic and sings and writes his own songs. That last is important. If you can pen a good tune and sing it and play it it shows a certain level of creativity that not everyone can reach. A lot of people play guitar, some people play guitar and sing, not everyone can play guitar, sing, and write and not be terrible at it. You don't have to be great, the occasional messed up note and forgotten song lyric is endearing, you just have to mean it, I think. And if you don't have your heart into what you're doing then whatever you play is going to come off as shallow and thus not very good.

Well, anyway, that's what I think.

I don't think they'd be many girls who wouldn't get a little gooey on the inside if a guy played her a song on the guitar, regardless of the song. No, really, it could be some really horrible, horrible song but I think the fact that someone is playing for -you- registers. Extra points for effort, I guess.

I think there is something a little bit sexy about a man who can play a guitar. I know I went out with an ex because we were at a bbq and he picked up an accoustic and started playing. I found it very sexy. Plus the fact he had long dark hair and peircing blue eyes.

Depends on what he is playing.

Mind you I have a thing for guys in bands.....

Yes, guitar playing is definitely an added-attraction, and IMO it really doesn't matter the skill level---what is more important is the confidence the guy displays (and of course, these generally are closely related).
As a musician myself, I would much prefer to play with someone who loves music, loves to play and enjoys him/herself (because I know the talent will eventually come!) than someone who is excellent but is a "prima donna" (ie other band members aren't up to their level). Fortunately, the truly most talented musicians are great at including younger/beginning musicians bec. they were once at that same level! So play away if you love it----but don't do it for anyone but YOU!

Haha, playing any sort of instrument is really hot. Guitar especially is just sweet...it shows that you're not just the average guy and you like putting time and effort into other sorts of stuff then just the typical "guy things". The singing ain't bad either. It's just all over awesome. So, yeah, it's very attractive. :-)

Not the guitar playing as lots can do it. It is just the thought of being with a musician. They seem deeper. Keep it up.. but work on your charisma more then your music playing if you want to attract women.

Yes, I beleive there is an attraction to a musically talented guy. Something about that guitar on the hip and making all that sound come out.

Do every single thing in your life for YOU- don't worry about if it is sexy to women. If you live like that, you'll be a "puppet" because girls are attracted to all kinds of things. Get in touch with your own personal passion and you'll find over time THAT is the sexiest creature in this whole world: someone who is self possessed, pursues his own desires, and make no apologies for it.

Well, I do agree that guitar players give off sex appeal. It gives them an air of Bad Boy about them.
I also think it was sweet , yet self motivated that you took this course. Your a guy and making an attemp to make yourself more attractive to a woman.
I say GOOD FOR YOU!
