I teach Spanish and may teach some beginning German classes soon. I have to say Spanish is used a lot, if you are in the U.S. it's a trend of what is to come. My friend is from El Salvador and he has continued to gain responsibility and money at his work from being fluent in Spanish.
There is a lot of trade with S. America in the aircraft field where he works and it is a great asset.
German is good for working in Europe, Germany is still a world player in manufacturing and trade. I am biased because my family is German, so I kind of prefer it.
Whichever you choose, it's tough to become truly proficient in another language. Japanese is particularly difficult, but a great skill to have. But be prepared to struggle to master any other language, it's worth it though.
My Spanish as a police officer was a huge help, and I was the only one on my department that spoke it.

I stared learning German because I'm half Swiss (speak German in Switzerland) but I am hooked on learning Japanese. Japanese is a real hard challenge and probably the most complex language around (or maybe Mandarin/Cantonese is) so only go for this if you really are commited.

But German is also great, relatively easy and a lot of people speak it around the world.
