I have a Golden Retriever and an English Setter and my brother owns a pitbull. We have have been feeding our girls Nutro Natural Choice (large breed) puppy food.

Reasons: www.nutroproduct.com (If they don't follow through on their guarantees they will refund your money 100%)

1. They guarantee healthy skin and coat. When looking at other dogs compared to ours there is a NOTICABLE difference in shedding, and coat gloss.

2. They guarantee digestability. The dog will absorbe more nutrients thus being fuller longer and feeding less. The stool is also smaller.

3. They guarantee palatability. That the dog will love it.

4. All the dog food contains no by products (heads feet or intestine) or Corn because it's harder to digest.

5. All the dog food contains glucosamine and Chondroitin which lubricates joints preventing arthritis and dysplasia. This is prevelant in large, heavy set dogs because of the weight on their knees and hips.

6. The puppy has a controlled growth formula so the puppy won't get to large to quickly. (NOT stunting it's growth). So that the bones and joints are able to grow and maintain the weight preventing broken bones and future problems.

Whichever food you choose make sure there are no by products, corn, barley, or sorghum in the ingrediants. Corn gluten is sugar from the corn so it's okay. Look for more natural ingrediants.

Also avoid feeding canned food, unles it's on occasion. It gets stuck in the teeth causing decay and rot.

Check out the website for all the nutrients and their benefits.

Make sure to feed the puppy on a schedule. It will help to keep the weight down and help tremendously with potty training.

Good Luck

As u noticed there are many pit haters out there and hard to get serious helpful answers.
Socialize the dog and treat it well and it will be fine.........

Now to the question.
Stay away from any food that has corn, soy and beet pulp in it. Pit bulls are notorious for food allergies and corn is the biggest factor that causes them.
Science diet is a NO, commercial foods are a NO.
You want a good quality food that will make your dog healthy and not cause health issues like the commercialized dog food does.
The all natural diet is the best.
I feed the raw, BUT there are some very good quality foods out there and some of them are
canidae
dick van pattens
wellness
solid gold
california natural
Innova evo
This is just a few, but they are good quality foods WITHOUT all the poisonous junk ingrediants that the dog food companies put into the food that does cause allergies, cancer and many other problems.
The food i mentioned is a bit more expensive, but is better food, and they eat less and poop less. Good luck with ur pit

You should buy a dog food without corn or by-products in it, as these are horrible for the dog. Corn is just a filler and it turns the dogs fur yellow, they can't even digest it.. And by-products are things like nasty bones, feathers and fur.. Try Soild Gold, Candiae, Timberwolf, Innova Dog.. With any food you buy meat needs to be the first thing listed on the package, but remember, NOT by-products! You could also feed a BARF diet, which is made up of meats.. Here is a site with info on it:
http://www.barfworld.com/

Also, Sceince Diet and Iams ARE NOT GOOD FOODS! They have nasty nasty corn in them.. Did you know corn can cause cancer? Purina is also bad.. And the reason vets suggest Sceince Diet is because they are paid to do so.

I personally feed my dogs a diet of kibbles and raw meat, soon though I will be switching to all raw meat because it really is great.. My cousins chihuahua even loves a raw diet.

I own a pit bull- Now matter what the breed is you feed a puppy, Puppy food to make the answer short and sweet. Preferably dry puppy food. Make sure you take him/her for her shots and at the appropriate age have him/her fixed. Please read up on pit bulls, while they are very good natured dogs they can be a little stubborn to train. Make sure you get plenty of chew toys cause the little one will start eating the house as it starts to cut his/her adult teeth.

Well that all depends on her age. If she is still a puppy, she needs to have the puppy formula dog food. Otherwise any regular dog food will be fine. Personally I give mine a mix of adult Science Diet dry food, and a third of a can of Pedigree canned food. He seems to like it, and is very healthy.

first off how old is the dog/puppy? Do you know what the previous owner/breeders had him on?

a change in diet can cause indigestion problems with a dog.
you should start off with a small mix of the food you want to switch him to. then gradual increase the amount of the food you want him to be on decreasing the old food over a few weeks.
We use science diet at the clinic i work for and most dogs are happy with it. But i use a mixture of science diet and gravy train on my puppy he seams to like it better that way.
Avoid human food as much as possible puppy will get used to eating it and will not eat dog food. now you can add eggs that are cooked in to in each morning it aids with a shiny coat.
Nothing raw ever. despite what idiots on here are saying that.

hope that helps

A high protein dog food is good. Most brands are good.

If she was eating something different than the new brand, she might feel off for a while, until her digestive system gets used to it. Lots of water, lots of exercise.

If the dog is a puppy, then I would feed her regular puppy food. Don't skimp. I recommend Authority (PetSmart brand), puppy food.
I also like their organic type food, I think it is called Nature's Harvest. But you'll see it, it's different packaging.
