I think it could be more attributed to depression, temporary or long term. I've been in financial difficulty for a while now and it does the opposite for me, I'm five months pregnant and work a full time 40 hour job, leave at 5pm and start my 30 hour part time job everyday at 5:30 pm plus weekends. My BF on the other hand lost his job, is depressed, unmotivated and sleeps all day. He's been looking for a job for four months, although I'm not sure how hard he's really looking since I'm never home. My parents call it laziness but I can see how it would be depressing. Although I'm not making excuses for my BF and his time is running out before he's depressed not only about his job but that I'm gone for good.

It is probably more depression than laziness, that feeling like you can't get out from under the piling up crap, like you are sinking in a hole and can't dig your way out...don't know where to start to clean up the mess...
I have been there and done that...was in debt up to my eyeballs, got some mental health help...I think I can save you money there, the one thing I cam e away with was start slowly, one thing at a time, make small goals that are achievable, don't make outrageous unattainable goals for yourself...
baby steps, try to look at the entire picture, not just the debt. You can do it, you just need to get your groove back!!!! It is tough I know, but don't let it consume you, try to get off the couch and accomplish one thing today, it'll make you feel better.
There are free financial counceloors out there and they really can help...good luck...try and have a good day.

It's not laziness it's a symptom of depression which I would imagine is brought on at least in part by the financial situation.
When you're depressed your brain activity actually changes and it leads to your seeming inability to start or finish anything.
As with all things problems seem huge when looked at all at once so take things a small chunk at a time. Tackle one little thing first, in it's entirety and then do another bit-it's like eating your dinner-you don't try and shovel it all in at once do you? No, you take mouthfuls you can cope with. Same approach to problems-whatever their nature.
Try going for a walk every morning-get someone to come and force you out the first few times if you have to-exercise releases endorphins which make you feel in a good mood-and more likely to feel like tackling said issues! Failing that go and see the doctor.
Try logging on to www.moneysavingexpert.com for helpful tips on money management or for more serious problems seek out the National debt line who will give you free, impartial advice-DO NOT head towards these advertised companies-they're out for themselves not you.
Try and think of your depression as a result of your 'scales' being unbalanced-not enough good stuff to balance out the bad stuff on the other side-if you start removing the bad stuff and add good at the same time you'll be back to your old self in no time!
Good luck. And remember-manageable mouthfuls!
ps answered as if you needed the advice but dispense as necessary!

Laziness is part of a kind of depression we experience when we have financial worries. We become less positive...have less get up and go and think it cant get any worse so i'll just stay here in bed.

Yes it can be as it's linked to self esteem and feeling depressed. It's a catch 22 where you feel bad so can't be bothered to do anything. Break the cycle and things start to improve.
