No I just really wanted to know if anyone knew I really wasnt critiqueing the whole idea but I like pickles on certain kind of hamburgers. Takem off on others!! LOL

Ever since my wife puked because of eating rotten pickles at a farmer's market, we are not allowed to have pickles in the house, order pickles at a restaurant, say the word "pickle" or even think about pickles. I can't even use the phrase "in a pickle" without her getting nauseous. And I don't want to clean up any more throw up! OOps, I haven't answered your question yet. The use of pickles in burgers dates back to 1885. Here is the relevant information:

"1885 - Charlie Nagreen of Seymour, Wisconsin, at the age of 15, sold hamburgers from his ox-drawn food stand at the Outagamie County Fair. He went to the Outagamie County Fair and set up a stand selling meatballs. Business wasn't good and he quickly realized that it was because meatballs were too difficult to eat while strolling around the fair. In a flash of innovation, he flattened the meatballs, placed them between two slices of bread and called his new creation a hamburger. He was known to many as "Hamburger Charlie." He returned to sell hamburgers at the fair every year until his death in 1951, and he would entertain people with guitar and mouth organ and his jingle:

Hamburgers, hamburgers, hamburgers hot; onions in the middle, pickle on top. Makes your lips go flippity flop."

Most of the reason why toppings like ketchup and pickles were originally added to burgers was to cover up the taste of the poor quality meat that was often used. I am referring to when burgers were something new, around the turn of the 20th century, before food quality standards existed. The practice has simply survived due to tradition.

Good question. I never thought it made any sense. The tastes kind of clash. You have the meat, cooked nicely then the cheese melted and then a pickle? Why? Very odd.

YEAH.. It was me ...I was just lying around eating a big *** burger...then I said "wonder if I have any pickles in the fridge to go with this burger, and all of a sudden I tasted it ................... oh ****......this is the greatest pickle burger that never happened? Ohh well sounded good yadayadayada

Whoever came up with it was a genius!! I love pickles on my burger. I won't even eat one without them.

No - but I think it was genius! Does any ONE person really come up with these ideas? It's sorta like chocolate sauce on ice cream.

nope but they should have world reconigtion mmm lovely in fact i like the pickle better than the meat
