The name in my SS card is my legal name. It's kinda over the top, since i don't have a family name. So the name there is Name not given XXX. (XXX my first name) Since my employee need my last name, so i put my first name then my family name as my last name.

Is your SS card name is your legal name?

You need to either get your employer to change your W-2 or you need to get a legal name change. Why not just ask your employer to change the name?

Edit: Based on your latest information, the best option is to fill out your return with what you have now. BUT, as soon as you can, get your SS card changed to your prefered name.

Good luck.

I'd have the return e-filed with a commercial preparer. Have them put your name on the return exactly as it appears on your Social Security Card. If that is rejected, they can take it from there.

This can be a difficult problem, hope your preparer can get you filed. You may have to file a paper return.

The name on the W-2 does not have to agree with the name on the SS card. Of course the numbers must match.

Yeah im going through the same thing u have to go to whereever your s.security office and get your name switched over so that both names match, it might take a few weeks to send a replacement card but the name changes the same day and you can file your taxes that same day as long as you have your s.s card #

File your tax return using the name that SS has on their records. As long as the SSN on your W2 is correct, name differences won't hurt you. The IRS checks your name on your tax return against the SS records. If they don't match they'll hold up your return.

Alternatively, ask your employer to re-issue your W2 with your correct legal name on it.
