I produced many items using Works version 1 . If I install a later version of Works will I be able to access these items?

Generally, MS is good about making its products backwards compatiable. Meaning you can (normally) open things in an old version of a program with the new version. They do not take away anything that was in the old, they just add new features.

If you upgrade and it does not work, just delete the program and reinstall Works 1.

I think Works 8 will read them and convert them to its newer format.

If not you can most likely get a conversion program.

I would upgrade and try to open them. You can always roll back. If you know someone with Works 8 send them a file and see if they can open it. That would be the simple way.
