I work in a trendy cocktail bar and am trying to think of a basic but nice food menu. Any ideas?

We have a court house next door to the bar so we get a lot of suits and office workers. They have between half hour to an hour for lunch

I would stick to your basics maybe Rubin or Club Sandwich. With choice of salad, soup, fries. With only a half hour that's plenty of time for one of those and you cant go wrong with one of those, Even if they wear suits and ties ....

You could put nice salads, wraps are very poplular, deli sandwiches, offer 2-3 kinds of soups have one different soup of the day. Just make sure to keep menu items that accomodate the trendy diets that are out there, Adkins, south beach, low fat, vegetarian just to name a few.

Finger food, sushi, and tapas beside a courthouse!!! NO NO NO!

Those professional people don't want to get greasy fingers and shirts or smelly breath during a business day.

Light bistro style meals easy to eat and light in a nervous tummy are a better bet.
Good comfort style soups and crisp salads.
Open-faced sandwiches can eaten with a fork and knife: tuna melt, grilled veggie melt.
Bistro entrees grilled salmon, glazed chicken.

Chicken wings are always popular, but you have to consider the crowd. Asian finger food is good because there is a lot of salt and that causes people to drink = more $. Also having a sampler plate where people can share is a good because it is more fun.

By trendy, I would think health concious. Perhaps smoked salmon canapes, grilled shrimp skewers, smoked oysters, crab claws, thinly sliced beef with blue cheese sauce, roasted chicken fingers, asparagus wrapped in proscuitto, smoked salmon salad, fruit skewers with yogurt and honey dip, grilled scallops, zuchini chips, zuchini stuffed with crab or veggie dressing, fruit and unusual cheese plater, baked brie topped with mango salsa, fruit salsa with blue corn chips, brie dip, hummus with roasted red pepper and pita chips, bagel chips with cream cheese and smoked salmon dip?

Some flavorful/colorful tapas-type appetizers would be sophisticated and light:

--summer rolls (served chilled)

--chicken satay (served hot)

--toast points
*can be topped with anything!
--a cheese and fruit plate (maybe with chocolate for dipping)

Get creative and offer fun finger foods.
