1941: Second World War
The Special Air Service was founded by Lieutenant David Stirling in Egypt. Lt Stirling and Lt Jock Lewes put together a small unit with 66 volunteers to conduct raids against the enemy forces facing the British army in the Western desert. In its first two years alone the growing force destroyed 400 German aircraft.

As stated the SAS was formed by david sterling a guards officer in Eqypt during the second WW.He originally recruited men from his own guards commando unit,later incorporated Belgium,french and German troops(jewish unit).the Long Range Desert Group were mainly recon unit until Sterling started teaming up with them and they also joined as did SBS.aNn excellent book on the history of the SAS in WWII is The Phantom Major.

The SAS was raised by then Captain Archibald David Stirling a Supplementary Reserve officer of the Scots Guards in 1941.

A Scottish soldier name of Stirling created the SAS in c1941 - it was formed mainly from members of the Long Range Desert Group.
