The every day street officers don't carry firearms for the very reason we American's created the second amendment, thier government doesn't allow it. They do have specialized units that carry firearms and the every day street officers are trained in their use, and can be issured a firearm, in case of an emergency. I agree they should be issued firearms. They seem to be a good bunch of guys.

London police quite often DO carry firearms. However, in some cases they carry them in a concealed manner. Also, if you go to airports and other security risk areas it becomes quite obvious that the police are armed.

Police don't carry firearms because that's the law and despite recent events there's no reason for it.
There are armed police units (They carry SMGs with laser sights) at the airports, major transport hubs and around important places such as Number 10.
Why do regular beat police in the UK need firearms?

Although I don't agree with them not being armed it seems to work there. However the use of force laws are a bit different there too. The beat cop there is able to rap you with their baton where it would be excessive in the US. Keep in mind though that the Armed Police are just a radio call away. It will not take them long to arrive.

Because the British politicos and police brass think that all you have do do is to order an armed thug to surrender, and they will comply. People of that ilk think that as gun ownership is supressed, violence and and violent crimes can easily be controlled without giving their men the means [firearms] to adequetly protect themselves. They are also hypocritical, because they arm a certain select group of their people, and not others.

Because of their socialism! They get VERY limited funds on such thigs from the government and so simply, they can't afford to arm every officer.
