Alcohol is a source of calories, just like sugar, fats, proteins. And since it doesn't give you any nutrition, it is considered "useless" calories.

foods are considered to have 'empty" calories when they do not contain anything essential for life and health such as vitamins, minerals, amino acids, fibre etc.
Alcohol has none of these. Therefore for the amount fo calories you get, you get zero nutrition.

Alcohol has a ton of sugar in it.Thats just the way it is made.If you don't want the calories then don't drink.Alcohol is nasty anyways.

I am not sure but I think it has something to do with all the yeast and sugars that are used in alcoholic drinks.
