Not likely. Remember the terrorists came here first looking for war. They obviously have no problem travelling to fight. The guys we are fighting now are not just Iraqi insurgents and Hussein Loyalists they are terrorists. They are mostly operating out of Iran and Syria. They carry their home country on their back and pledge allegiance to whatever flag pays them the most.

No. But I think you already know that. We aren't going to pull out of Iraq because THE MAN would lose face, (& the motivations for being there would be a deflated balloon). WE WANT VICTORY! Hey--in a "war" in which this country ATTACKED Iraq, & the Iraqi people are far worse off than they were before. Even Republicans are against Bush. I can't remember when a president has had such low ratings. It's all a horror, & I can't imagine the best stategy for "cleaning it up." There IS civil war in Iraq, confirmed by well informed & credible people. But now that we have poked a hornet's nest, how can (she said caustically) we just walk away? All things considered, bottom line is that the situation is deteriorating, & we need to withdraw. Period. But no, this isn't going to happen, even with those "bleeding heart Libs" who have finally (to an extent) balanced the power in our government. The dictator says it's his decision. Never mind the total lack of wisdom in the attack from the very start. The hypocracy. Let's just send in more young people to die. Then we will "live happily ever after." There are no easy answers to the damage already done, but for god's sake, how can anyone believe that sending yet more, & more troops (who, by the way, are not adequately trained/prepared) could POSSIBLY be a logical solution? The implication of your question is that people who feel we should withdraw, also think we'll all then live happily after. Nothing could be less true.

Edit: blackmule said it in one simple sentence. & THAT is the reality.

I really dont think it will make a difference.. I just dont understand why engage in a war with a country half a world away in the first place? Pulling out would be a great thing not because everything will be peacefull afterwards but its a start.
Noone likes it when a foreign country comes and tells them how to live and what to do in their country and it is only natural they will fight back... I realy think America should dedicate more funds to internal affairs rather than engage in pointless wars.
There are countless subjects that would benefit the country as a whole if the government invested on them.
Education would definetely need more funds... The billions spend on weaponry could really be spend to schools and universities..
Racism (all kinds), unfortunately is still quite a subject in the US, and being a country with such a vast mix of races, it should actually DO something about it rather than simply applying a politicaly correct policy.
f.e.
I dont care if black people are "coloured" or "******"... I think it would be better if they were actually treated equally...
So what if you are a salesperson instead of a salesman/saleswoman? Putting the -person is only a way to
discriminate without doing so...
If you beat the crap out of someone who broke into your house its self defence, but if you are white and the burglar is black you are commiting a hate crime??
How about spending some big dollars over teaching people to eat properly? America rates among the top countries with overweight citizens. What does the government do about that?
Many many things... But unfortunately the government does not see this. It reminds me of the Roman empire of old. It kept fighting wars hundreds of miles away from its territory while the citizens suffered... I thinks its time America realised that what is inside its borders is much more important than what is outside. Instead of gathering power to protect against perceived enemies (lets face it, noone would directly attack America) it should cater for the people that fund the government; the Americans

Short answer: No.

More detailed answer - the US, UK and Australian troops are keeping things at a slow burn in Iraq. Violence is happening, but violence would happen even if the troops were not in Iraq. If they were not there to contain it, it would escalate into a full scale civil war that would make the number of deaths now seem small in comparison and Iraq would probably split into several warring states. What needs to happen is a massive troop increase, preferably involving other countries, and a concerted effort to win the hearts and minds of the people, as well as a take and hold attitude to fighting the insurgents, rather than striking from secure zones and then retreating back to them.

You would have fulfilled one of the current 3 conditions demanded by terrorists. The others are "quit Afghan"; and stop supporting Israel. If you comply then maybe you can all live happily ever after... er that is provided these ragheads don't demand any more conditions. Any Presidential hopeful reading this?

Abrupt withdrawal of forces without fool proof arrangement will be victory for those forces which are against USA and dark days for those who are helping USA. In addition to the blood shed vacuum may be filled by forces hostile to USA and oil supply may be disturbed. Rest you can judge yourself.
