Just nip down to your pet shop or vet and they will stock anti-scratch spray. Its usually a citrus based product, as cats hate that.

There are several spray-types of products on the market (mainly for cats spraying/"marking") furniture, but for scratching, I have found the best method is to run some 2-sided tape across all corners of your furniture, and leave it there for a while. Cats hate the feel of anything sticky on their feet and they will stop this and take to their scratching posts. Also, if you only have one kind of scratching post, you may want to get a couple more made of different fibers, including wood. This should take care of the problem. The fact is: Cats HAVE to scratch. Good luck with this method--it usually works like a charm.

Check ur pet store, there r numerous products to deter this habit, from scratching posts to heavy clear plastic u attach to the sides of the sofa and sprays that repel the cat from scratching. Do what u can, but Never have a cat declawed, it is a cruel, painful procedure. I am sorry to see so many cat haters at this site. Hope something works for you.

The aluminium foil already suggested is a good option, as is double sided sticky tape- both will generally stop a cat scratching more effectively than an aversion spray. If you are concerned about putting sprays on your furniture, then try soaking cotton wool balls with a commercial spray, or just with eucalyptus oil, and placing them around the spot you want them to avoid.

Yeah there are several sprays you can get from a pet shop or vet. Don't build your hopes up tho, I have tried 3 different kinds and none of them stop my cat!! Ive tried scratching posts, sticky stuff you put on where they scratch and spraying him with water which only works if you're around when he's scratching. Its doing my head in but what can you do??!! lol hope you have better luck than me!!

Hi There,

Im not sure of any spray but if you get some lemon soap or any cirtus soap and rub it wherever your cat scratches, it should stop as cats cannot stand the smell of citrus! If it carry's on doing it, then when it is scratching, just put your two finger on it nose area and firmly say no, cats really understand that!

I have Bobtail cats..(Manx) and trust me that spray stuff dont work on them..They love fruit and stuff so the fruity spray not going to work..Go get you a Regular Spray Bottle put some water in it..When the cat scratches spary it..It doesnt hurt the cat nor have any chemicals that could harm the eyes of the cat..It works on most things that I hate for my cats to do..

Spray surgical spirit on the sofa where they scratch - cats hate the smell. Also bicarbonate of soda works wonders too :)

what works better than a spray is the ultra thin clear tacky double sided tape strips. Cats hate sticky stuff;;; they feel this and they steer clear. It does not harm furniture and removes easily, and is hard to see unless you look for it. Most pet stores carry it... worked like a charm for me. And, once they get used to those spots being "icky" in cat terms., you can remove it! Kind of a retraining thing. but remember to rub your scratching posts with catnip... steers them there and makes it enjoyable for them....ta.
