I say go with poetry. A nice card with the following verse should do the trick.

Why would that hurt her feelings? All you need to do is buy a Seiko Cleancut Shaver and shave her beaver while she is watching television or knitting a sweater. You can ask politely. It won't hurt her feelings. But be prepared for her to say "No" as shaving that area results in ingrown hairs and a VERY uncomfortable regrowth. If she wants to wax it, that's her choice. But since she hasn't already, it's unlikely she will do that either.

Let her know that it's something you like, but do not be offended if she doesn't want to do it. It's a personal thing. Maybe you could compromise by shaving most of it off, but not all?

Just tell her it's something you want to try. Offer to help her, play on the erotic implications. Then once it's done, tell her how much you like it. But do not refer to friends' experiences or your personal experiences. That will open a can of worms you do not want to deal with.
