I don't know mych about the impendance or other electric things, but I would hate to lose one of my hardware. I've already connected the Mp3 Player to the speakers and it worked well. Afterwards, I heard that it could be dangerous for the MP3 Player. Is it?

Does the impedance match? (8 ohms, 16 ohms, 32 ohms)

Most surround systems are designed to sense stereo or true surround input and should be able to determine the ipod is stereo.

You shouldn't "burn" the ipod because the input jack on the surround shouldn't "send" anything back up the line.

If the impedance does not match, the output signal to the speakers may be very faint or almost inaudible.

Try it. It might work great.

In addition to what tabulator32 said make sure you use an input that is straight input only Left and Right such as your CD input on the system. Easiest way to do this is to get an RCA cable to go out from there. You can go to radio shack to get the adapter to go from stereo headphone jack to Dual output RCA make sure the headphone jack is stereo (you can tell by two black bands on the male jack) and your RCA side of the adapter will have a red and white (Left/Right) side
