Terminology:
"Track" = like a wire, connecting pads with each other
"Pad" = the copper substance onto which the component will be soldered.
"Bus" = same as "track", but usually wider to handle more current, as it is meant for power supply to the circuitry.
"Thru-hole" = a "pad" with a hole in the center, to accommodate conventional components (i.e. those with wire-legs).
"SMT" = technology whereby the components are "glued" to the pad surface with a conductive substance.
"Flowsolder / Wavesolder" = used for conventional components only, to solder them to the pads in one go, rather than one-by-one with a soldering iron.
"Manufacturing Steps" =
a) Layout - usually done on a computer
b) Panel ling - cutting the (copper laminated) boards to a manageable and economic size (for the manufacturing process). This mean that often several end-product boards are on one panel, which can later be broken off (at a perforated line).
c) Photo Transfer - The layout is transfered onto the panel which has been applied with a photo-resistive coating.
d) Etching - An acid removes the copper where there are no tracks & pads required.
e) Drilling and Punching - Holes and other odd shapes are cut out of the board.
f) Inspection - Quality control.
And then - of course comes the "population" = putting all the components on, but that is another loooong story, I would have to charge you or that..... (smirk).
