I speak English, Irish, French, German, Italian. Don't go for Irish or German as they are difficult to learn but their bonus points are that they're a bit different. French is a really beautiful language to learn. But I'd say go for Italian as its relatively easy, it would be a nice pastime and it really is a wonderful language. Hope you enjoy whatever you go for!

One that you are interested in. I study French and German at university, and personally I much prefer German, although the cases and word order make it pretty difficult. I don't think that romance languages are for me, really. I've also done a bit of Russian and it seemed to take ages to learn the alphabet. The problem with something like Russian is that it might be a little too 'in at the deep end', what with it having a completely different alphabet and all. Chinese is really difficult too, because if you say a word with different tones of voice it can have a completely different meaning. Did you learn a language in school? If so, what language was it and how did you find it? Maybe that can help you find a language that you'll enjoy learning.

Portuguese,(I'm learning it at the moment)it is a lovely language, just as easy to learn as Spanish (but without those silly inverted ? at the start of every question and that horrible 'th' sound in gracias (graTHias) and Barcelona (BarTHelona). If you are going to choose Spanish choose the Latin-American version.
Italian is a nice language too.
I don't recommend languages like Russian or Greek, you would have to learn a new alphabet first.
Chinese, Japanese ,Korean (characters not letters) and even Arabic would be really difficult.
I'm Welsh and would not recommend that either...the sounds of some letters are difficult for an English person to pronounce and rules on mutations are complex (many South Walean Welsh speakers can't get the hang of it).
Oh, French is quite an easy language until the natives start talking at great speed.
I admire you for trying...many English people do n't bother, they either expect foreigners to learn English or they speak English to them slowly and loudly. Good luck...let us know how you get on.

How about a language that is shared by over 2,000,000 speakers in over 100 countries and has only 16 grammatical rules?
A language that you can become fluent in, in a month? That has an ever growing list of music, literature (both translations and original) and a close knit community. A culture formed over the last 120 years, and an interesting history worth investigating.
Esperanto is growing by leaps and bounds, and if you have the inclination to learn other languages after this one, Esperanto can help there too.
The site below gives an extremely good idea of how effective Esperanto is in learning other languages because of its clear linguistic style and structure.
Research and make your own conclusions.

Something that fits your speech patterns. It depends on your accent, it will affect how easily you leant to pronounce a different language. French can be tricky to learn to speak if you have a strong accent, Spanish might be easier. Try saying a few thing in different languages and see which comes more easily.
If you're learning a language for fun pick one thats fun to work with!

It depends...do you go on holiday abroad to Spain or Greece? If so, then consider learning Spanish or Greek.
French is always a good choice or German (though it's harder because of all the cases which also exist in Greek) or Italian.

i think you should learn russian, and also being able to speak it myself (as well as spanish, french, chinese and english)
i would say that it is a language that may get you anywhere, but some people may find it hard, so if u dont agree try french, it is a bit easier...........just remember the more languages you know, the more inteligent and clever you will get.
