Feeling a tad militaristic today, maybe it’s the weather, maybe the end of a bad week, I can't tell.

Either way, I wondered, what weapons (by which I mean everything from assault rifles and pistol etc all the way up to fighter jets and tanks and weapon platforms, in fact anything you can use to cause carnage and mayhem) are recognised as being the best in the world?

Anything will do, and if it’s not fair to call one 'the best', which is your fav? What would you like to kick some *** with? What about ones that aren't the best, but have character and look cool?

Links to photos and other info appreciated too

and if you know any fucked up futuristic laser guns I can look forward to seeing on the news in the future as they heroically kill fleeing civilians, lets hear about them too!

Happy Friday all!

note to Martinf430.
Cruise missiles are relatively inaccurate compared to other forms of smart ordnance. They require men to be on the ground so the can "paint" the target, i.e. aim a laser directly at the objective so they can home in on it. Therefore they kind of do put our servicemen in harm's way. Just thought I'd share that with you.
The best handgun has to be the Sig Sauer P226 by far. World famous for their accuracy and sturdiness Sigs are the favourite of many SF units around the globe.
The best assault rifle is a tough contest between the Colt C7A2 (which I believe is used by the Canadians, I'll stand corrected), the Armalite M16, or the Heckler and Koch SA80A2 which despite bad press is a very impressive weapon and is incredibly accurate out to 600m, especially for it's size (it is much shorter than many other assault rifles).
Best tank in the world is officially the Challenger 2 MBT. Though many people will argue it is surpassed by the M1 Abrams I reckon it would be a very tough match, since all the vital statistics are roughly the same, the match is more likely to be determined by the tank crew themselves and what technology is used etc.

Hope to have enlightened you a bit.

Oh best attack helicopter: AH-64D Apache Longbow-unstoppable!
Best tank killer: A-10 "Warthog" especially with that monster of a Gau-8 rotary gun up front!

That's all for now.

The finest weapon on the planet, without equal, is the U.S. Navy's TRIDENT submarine. Configured in both SSBN and SSGN, the TRIDENT is capable of submarine launched ballistic missiles or vertical launched tomahawk missiles. These missiles do not have to reach a laser painted target, but can also be targeted to a specific latitude/longitude or "steered" remotely. The TRIDENT can also use torpedoes for waterborne targets, and are also capable of carrying special forces units and gear for nearly invisible insertion. The TRIDENT is a virtually undectable platform, difficult to detect even with sonar, sonobuoys, or anti-submarine warfare vessels and aircraft.

The best weapons are cruise missiles, precise deadly and they dont put the servicemen in harms way using them ICBMs are awesome but as soon as someone uses 1 we all die.
canadian soldiers LOL!!

To made in england. Tactical tomahawk has a range of 1100 km and is GPS guided and pre programmed with 16 targets and can loiter and select any of the pre determined targets.RAF Storm shadow has a range of 250 km and is air launched and gps guided which poses limited threat to the pilot at that range if bombing a target in baghdad for instance. Far more advanced than jack bauers pistol

I think the best weapon in the world is a Canadian Soldier... They are the best trained Army in the world, but the only down fall is they don't have the numbers that the Americans do...
