Alcoholic drinks were originally made because it was a way of purifying water, the alcohol kills off any bacteria and germs. Over the years, this process has been refined further and further so that we have lovely tasting alcoholic drinks, beer from the Egyptian times would have been more like a chunky vegtable soup.
Alcohol is now so deeply ingrained in some cultures that it can't really be seperated from them, it only makes you crazy if you drink too much of it.

Some people behave crazy. Most people, who drink, enjoy the warm feelings and deeper flavours. People have drank alcohol for thousands of years, there would be outrage if the government tried to take it away.

It doesn't make you crazy; all it does is breaks down your inhibitions. Crazy people don't act more crazy, aggressive people don't get more aggressive - what happens to people when they're drunk is the way they would behave if they had permission in everyday life.
You only have to look at what happens in any civil war, such as Yugoslavia, to see how badly some people will behave when their govt gives them permission, and they do bad stuff when they're sober.
Alcohol doesn't 'make' people do bad stuff.
When me and my mates get drunk we fall around laughing at stupid jokes. We don't feel the need to beat anyone up or smash anything. It just lets out what on the inside anyway. And you don't need to get falling over drunk to have a good time.
Not everything in life needs to be controlled by the Govt, that only happens when people won't control themselves.

Actually, the origin of alcohol was for ritualistic purposes. For example, Egyptians used it for harvest rituals and celebrations. Since it has maintained its place in society, people realized that they could rpoduce it for money. Because of the addictive nature of substances, including alcohol, people continue to produce to fill the demand.

The key is acting responsibly. We cannot ban everything and expect people to then not 'act crazy'. Besides, you can cook with it, and studies have shown small amounts to be beneficial.
