I have been searching online for dog agility competitions, and I couldn't find any that I could join. They are all in cahoots with the AKC, and only AKC registered dogs can participate. Now, my dog, and his other family, was not registered with AKC, and because of that I cannot register my dog with AKC. This alone disqualifies me from entering these competitions!!! So, does anyone know of any open competitions in Long Island, or NY? I would like to do these things with my dog, but I don't even know where to start looking...please help!

There is a way to participate in AKC events with a dog that appears to be purebred, but doesn't have AKC paperwork. So if you have a purebred without papers, contact the AKC to begin the steps to getting your dog registered. The catch is the dog must be altered, but since there are no papers, this is the right thing to do anyway.

There are other organizations that do Agility events, but also allow mixed breeds, such as CPE, http://www.k9cpe.com/ and the UKC. I would also suggest looking for an agility club in your area and give them a call. They should have a list of events going on this year.

Do your homework and get an ILP number for the dog. Go back to AKC's website and read the info they have.

Get your ILP number and then get in contact with your local kennel club, or even call some obedience trainers in your area. Most will know who in the area is doing agility. Trust me, someone is!!! It is pretty popular and there are people all over that are involved in it. Most kennel clubs have a group that are heavy into obedience and agility.

Papillons do truly properly and so do Shetland Sheepdogs. a great style of the toy canines interior the smallest heights are Papillons- the subsequent length up the Shelties have a tendency to be greater often occurring. you additionally can attempt Australian Sheepdogs in case you're searching for a bigger dogs. Any dogs can do it in the event that they have the stress and intelligence- yet those are the breeds I also have a tendency to work out the main in agility- and those that for the period of my opinion do the suitable (aside from the border collies.)

You can get an ILP with your dog through AKC. If he is altered/desexed, you can get an ILP number and enter him in events other than conformation.
