i'm really confused. Majority of people here in the philippines are taking up a nursing course (even doctors) because it's in demand in other foreign countries, and a chance to migrate abroad. im torn between taking up Medicine and Nursing. i really want to be a doctor but i would spend a total of 13 years studying (whew!) but nuRsing is just 4 years. Moreover, i want to settle down at the age of 24 or 25 but if i take Med, it wouldn't be possible because i would graduate when im 30. Right now im in a pre-med course and i still have time to decide. help!!!!

If you really want to be a doctor then I would go with the Medicine course. Yes its longer, but think of it this way, how proud of yourself would you be when it was completed and you were a Doctor. Don't be in a rush to settle down after all 30 is no age at all to start a family, and you would be financially secure. Good luck on whatever you decide!!!!

It all depends on you, to whom you give preference - early settlement (hardly matters in long run) or dignity of a doctor and handsome income. By selecting courses like anaesthesia, you can still settle earlier in medicine. Although nursing is also not a bad option but it strictly involves serious and characteristic dedication of a nurse.
Just spend some more time, be a doctor and lead rest of life gracefully.

if you are pre med your nursing course wont take 4 yrs

you can "test" out on parts of the nursing

since you are studing most of what nurses learn now you can ask to take tests on the book parts of your nursing class and that way just the clinical parts you will have to do

Mr. confuse

You have to be practical right now, Iam a RN here in California (Dialysis RN) and I tell you, most of my co-nurses here are doctors from P.I. It seems they are contented with their life at the same time they brought their own family here, though u really have to work hard but its compensated.
