Hey guys, have a quick question for you. I went to open a door recently and, after touching the knob, I realized there was dry or semi-dry blood on it. Not really thinking, I bent down to get a cloer look, for fear I just came in contact with semi-wet blood. I forgot I was wearing my hair kinda spiky that day, and when I bent my head down over the door knob some of my hair came into contact with the blood (I know this becasue I felt something brush up against my hair). I am worried now that my hair may have become contaminated with blood, especially HIV or Hep C. Will taking a simple shower in hot water, using shampoo, rinse away any blood and make my hair clean again, or do I need to use something stronger say antibacterial soap? Is it possible for the blood, or HIV to soak into my hair, staying there perminatley? Should I cut off the part of my hair that came into contact with the blood? Please help.
Thanks

Hon,

HIV can only be transmitted through blood from one person to another. In other words, if you get a cut and you touch someone else's fresh blood to your cut that is HIV+, then you can possibly contact HIV. You cannot get HIV by touching blood to your hair, just like you cannot get HIV from kissing and hugging an HIV + person.

Yes, fresh blood or other bodily fluids can carry HIV and heps, and they don't die right off unless you treat the blood or fluid with bleach. If you handled the package, you'd need to sanitize your hands too. May not be necessary to return the package if the package wasn't open and contents handled by the guy when delivered. But if you're really concerned, then wipe the package down with a sanitizer and return it. But don't send a contaminated package out. If it's infected, you'll potentially infect many others.

If it didn't come in contact with a a break in your skin, you have nothing to worry about. Especially if it was dry.

If it did, you still probably don't.

Yes, your hair will be fine, no it wouldn't stay there permanently. If it makes you feel better, cut it off, but it won't matter. HIV won't survive long there.

Just don't go sticking any strange bloody doorknobs inside you and you'll be fine.

Don't panic. HIV doesn't last long outside of the body. Did you wash your hands right away(you should)? I'd be more worried about Hep B. Do what us health care workers do. We assume EVERYONE has HIV,HepB,C, until proven otherwise. You think about your actions more that way. Don't sweat the hair.

HIV or Hep C virus cannot transmit through blood on hair. You don't need a hair cut :)
