At our farm we had 5 dogs over the 58 years on the farm and had them all neutered. Why? We spent a lot of time driving miles to chase them down as they headed for the nearest in heat female and it got tiresome. Your may be around desexed dogs now but that won't always be the case-i.e. if a friend brings an in heat female anywhere near your dog. Too many good reasons to have it done but watch their diet afterwards-like humans, they seem to gain weight, least ours did.

The biggest reason for desexing your dog is that you will GREATLY decrease the chance of reproductive system cancers, which could shorten your dog's life.
Believe it or not, dogs can also get venereal diseases from indiscriminate mating. Neutering greatly reduces their obsession with female dogs, since they aren't driven by their hormones every time a female (spayed or intact) comes into the picture.
As well, neutering can help 'calm' a crazy dog, one with poor impluse control (another side effect of too much testosterone).

You don't want your dog to be male or female?? I think you mean spayed or neutered... ? Neither of those will take away from the sex of your dog however you should do it f you do not plan on breeding your animal responsibly and professionally. You and the animal will both live happier and more enjoyable lives if you do.

Absolutely no reason why you should get him castrated. He'll still lick his "parts" if he's castrated (just won't have as many parts to lick!)
It is only in recent years that castration has been seen as a routine operation.
You bought a dog because you wanted a male presumably so keep him that way.

he will become sexually frustrated and that is not good,,, spaying/neutering your pet if you do not intend to show your dog in conformatin.. is the best thing you could do for him or her... as for jumping on visitors - you have not trained not too and as for licking - he is a dog and is cleaning himself

Yes, please have him nuetered. It is best for everyone envolved. You don't have to worry about him when a female comes into heat half way across the county -trust me - he knows and he will want it -i have 4 dogs - all are spayed or nuetered - life is great on the farm

getting dog fixed wont stop it from licking it self there and jumping up on people wont be stoped by getting him fixed unles he is jumping up and humping it also depends on the age of the dog the older the dog the humping behavior may still present it self in fixed dogs if they are fixed as adults

Your dog needs to be neutered.Left intact he will be at high risk for testicular cancer, prostrate cancer, prostrate infections and anal fistulas. He also won't develop unwanted hormone drive behaviors. He will live a longer, healthier life and be much happier.
