I would prefer not to lance it if at all possible, but can't I pack it w/ something that will pull that stuff out of there, like a poultice? Help me I can't stand this pain!

"An absessed tooth is a very serious thing. It is caused by a very large amount of tooth decay that is not restored by a dentist and is allowed to grow larger and larger over time. The tooth eventually gets rotten all the way into the living part of your tooth where the nerve is. That nerve then decides to die and basically go out screaming. Causing pain and the contents of that tooth to go out the root of the tooth into the gums and cause an infection. Any infection that is untreated can cause very harmful effects including (on rare occasions) even death. Usually if an absess is untreated it will eventually stop hurting but it WILL come back with a vengance several times until it is treated. The treatment is either extraction (not usually the best option) or a root canal (which is not half as scary as it sounds). Modern day root canals involve being numbed to the point of not feeling ANYTHING and spending about an hour and a half in a dental office while having a procedure done that is even easier than having a tooth filled. There should be NO PAIN INVOLVED! To find a good dentist in your area call the local "periodontist" (a gum specialist) who usually sees the dental work done by every dentist in the whole town and knows who does the best work. If finances are an issue there is usually a Free Dental Clinic in almost every town."

This is the wrong way around. As you have found out, the use of antibiotics should not be the primary defence measure. Instead, drainage should come first, and antibiotics should be used as supplementary treatment (if at all).
Either have the tooth removed immediately, or ask the dentist to get into the root canals and start cleaning out the causative bacteria. And not all abscesses can be lanced - it depends on the type of bacteria as to whether the abscess will come to a head, so it is unwise to try and treat it by lancing and antibiotics alone.
Seek definitive TREATMENT and remove the CAUSE.

I went through this many times until I finally got them all pulled. Put a heat pad on that side of your face and it will burst on its own. Once that pressure is relieved the pain usually disappears instantly. The heating pad should be as hot as you can stand without burning your face. Takes about a half hour. By the way, my dentist told me how to do this. I feel your pain!

you have probably either gone back to the dentist or are better by now. but applying heat like a very warm compress helps with abscesses.

Your best advice is GO TO YOUR DENTIST NOW!!! if you fiddle with your tooth yourself, you willbe SORRY, and very, very sick, a friend of mine did just that, LOST ALL!!!! teeth in upper mouth, could not eat solid food for WEEKS!! GO TO YOUR DENTIST NOW!!!!

you defiantly need to go back to the dentist so they can clean it out properly. Don't attempt anything yourself as you are more likely to cause more infections rather then fix it.
