Cats are very loving animals and they love to be with people more than anything... you are like there god... i have my cats sleeping with me i dont think its that much of a bad idea.
But if you really dont want him/her sleeping with you then you will have to close the door nothing else will work since there such loving animals.
I disagree about people thinking animals dont have feelings exactly like ours... we get lonely so do they... we get depressed so do they... we get tired, angry, sad they do to. Animals are just like us they have the same feelings and emotions dont let other people tell you otherwise!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I will have to explain this question the best way I can and in parts. First of all if you're the only ones in your house and you have favoured your cat a lot...its most likely to find you which is your small cosy bedroom. Although it could be vice versa...that is if you did not care for your cat but favoured something else eg; A child or baby it could want to join the family. If you spend more time in your bedroom than your living room...that could be the cause. You say it scratches the door at night...could be that it cannot get comfortable outside or something or someone has scared it that could be a good reason. Some cats are scared of thunderstorms. Some cats can be over sensitive and demand extra attention. It may be that it could detect mice. You did not say whether it meowd. Perhaps you had a supper of sardine sarnies. Some queens if they get pregnant would like a bed to have kittens.

I don't have a cat now but when I was younger living at home,we had cats. Our tomcat;Tazz use to always come in and sit right on our chest and bite our nose.It is just their nature to want to be around their people.We never could stop Tazz. Maybe if you distract your cat with say ,a scratching post or a kitty condo.That might help.I don't know if you have introduced the paper grocery bag to your cat,but that may keep your feline occupied for a while.
You may also consider the diet.Is your cat satisfied with it's meal.That would help make it more content.Give your cat an equally irresistible place to dwell.One a bit further from your bedroom door. Good luck.

It depends how your house is arranged, what we do, we lock them in the kitchen (with no lock) and put a chair against it...it does work but ocasionly your cat will figure it out so do the same to your door after awhile when you feel hes stopped doing it take the chair away from outside your room. Then if he doesn't come in take away the chair outside the kitchen. By then he shouldn't come in your room. And by the way, there are 2 main reasons why your cat is coming into your room theese are;
1.He/She is hungry
2.Or because the cat is on her own she might want some company. Beware to get your tootsies nibbled :) good luck

This doesn't take a genius to figure out. On the OUTSIDE of your bedroom door, run a couple strips of 2-sided tape. When Kitty goes to scratch at this, she's not going to like it--they don't like sticky things on their feet, so she'll stop. And now, crack your window about 1 inch, just enough to let a small amount of air in without freezing to death. There ya go--both problems solved! Good luck to you.

My cat use to do that. She did it cause she was hungry. If you think that might be the problem. Just get up and feed the poor thing. It only takes a few minutes, then you can go back too bed.
Or perhaps she is lonely and wants attention.
Do you ever let her in ? If not Why? Cats like to cuddle and get lots of attention, when they want it.
If you really don't want your cat to sleep with you, or in your room, or feed it try and find her a nice new home!

Put the cat into another room (i.e. - Kitchen) and close the door of that room.
alternatively get a saw and cut your bedroom door in half then close the bottom half so the cat cant get in but leave the top half open so that the air can circulate.

My cat was our alarm clock for my daughter. The cat died last year aged 17. There isnt much you can do apart from shutting the cat in the room where its food, water and litter tray is. you can also buy some clear sticky pads from a betterware catalouge to help stop the cat from scratching at the door.

Get a squirt bottle, old spray bottle that has a stream setting, wash it out good, and fill it with water, when cat comes in, give it a squirt! Cat's hate water! Can also be used to train cat not to get up on things, or to claw at things. You can beat a cat, and they will come back, but you use water, and they will never do it again!
