Its so the anesthetist can check your obs. they place a pulse oximeter on your finger and if there's dirt or nail varnish on the finger it can increase error on the pulse, oxygen readings. the anesthetist also needs to keep an eye on the color of your fingernails to ensure your getting enough oxygen as skin color can not determine this. let me know how you get on in your debate. i hope this helps

Doctors frequently check your circulation by looking at the color of your fingertips and lips etc. if the flesh under your nail looks blue for example, the circulation my be poor, or not getting enough oxygen. It has nothing to do with the nail polish itself but rather the ability to see the true color of the nails.

we like to monitor your oxygen saturation in your blood, aslo known ans pulse oximetry. this is simply done by placing a probe on your finger tip. nail varnish can sometimes interfere with the reading, so its removed.

If you started bleeding internally and your heart and lungs were not getting enough blood supply, the blood would automatically got to feed your heart and lungs there for your finger and toe nails would turn blue.

i thought that to help patients overcome fear of operations that they were actively encouraged to dress up for the occasion, ballroom gowns for women, tuxedo's for men, to keep their minds off the prospect of going under the knife. apparently this does not stop operating room staff undressing you while you're under and having a good old chortle at your genetillia

Because they have to put a devise on your finger which measures oxygen saturation and nail polish can affect it's accuracy.

its to see if enough oxygen is getting to ur extremities lol wierd i know but i had to ask the doctor when i went for an operation coz i was wondering the same thing

They can check your circulation fromyour nails. Maybe also for hygene reasons.
