It is probably tonsilitis and you'll need antibiotics to clear it up, so go doctors and he'll be able to put your mind at rest or get you started on treatments for the cancer if it does turn out to be that serious.
In any event you need to see the doctor.

Throat Cancer is not known to be carried down generations unless they follow the same vocations that involve excessive exertion of Vocal Chords or suffer from the habit of suppressing emotions. In any case the location of the lump calls for immedate check up and probably a biopsy to rule out the villain. Even if it turns out to be so, be calm and face the situation boldly. The disease surrenders to those who refuse to surrender to it.

thousands of people go to the ER daily for your same symptoms, probally nothing, but if you feel its something that can be cured in a few hours then go ahead in, if not call call your doctor. more than likely is a form of pharangitis, but ya also gotta look out for those sneaky tonsils. usually its bilateral swelling but ya never know.

If you still have tonsils, then it may be a swollen tonsil from an infection...however, since you have a family history of throat cancer, PLEASE have this checked out immediately

go to your doctor, it could be many things, beginning of strep, allergy to a medication, don't wait around have it checked by your physician, he can tell you, he can fix it, not a novice.
