im going to NY in april and need some info on duty free and my passport..?

firstly,i have the old style passport,its valid for another 8 years,do i need to renew it to the new electronically chipped 1? and am i allowed to bring back cigarrettes etc from the states,if so whats the limit and how cheap are the cigs and booze..thanx.

with regards to you passport if you look at the back with your photo and details as long as there is a bar code at the bottom this means you have a machine readable passport which is all you need.

You will also need to read and anser the questions regarding a Visa which your travel agent should advise you. As long as you have no criminal convictions ( no matter how small ) then you can enter the States on the Visa Waiver programme which is filled out on the plane. If you have any convictions no matter how old or how small ie driving etc then you will need to make an appointment at the embassy in London to see if you need a visa.

You can bring back Cigs etc as advised by guy above.

If your passport was issued before 26 October 2006, a machine readable passport will be accepted. You must have at least 6 months left on your passport.

You can bring back 200 cigarettes and 1 litre of spirits without paying UK duty.

To go to America now you need more then 6 months on your pasport.. But get it before March as you will need to go for an interview and have all kind of eye and finger prints taken.. nd the price goes up to about £55 gbp's. You are better off get all the ftuff you need when you in NY it cheeper still but watch how much you bring back customes are really striked.. and how you pack it dont try to hide it.

you can bring back ciggys and booze ..not sure on the amount but they are cheap.
