Meditation is meant to be an exercise, so taking a drug won't help you to get the benefit of meditation.. It's Ok if you fail to meditate successfully; just keep trying and you will slowly get better.

There is no stage to get past. Feel those feelings until they subside. Do not seek a goal in your practice.

You cannot stop thinking about things from the day, as you are thinking about stopping thinking. Just sit.

Just sit, and breathe.

If this is Zazen, perhaps consider some koans:

What did your face look like before you were born?

All things return to the one. To what does that one return?

Two monks were fighting over a cat, as one monk was moving away. Both were undecided as to who should keep it. A third monk came up, and said "Perhaps cut the cat into two, with a sword, thus each gets half." Though this seemed cruel, it seemed like a solution, but they were undecided. They went to the master, and asked, "Is this the correct solution to our dilemma? Should we cut the cat into two with one sword?"
The master swiftly answered, "No, you idiots, stop this nonsense immediately, cut the cat into one, with one sword."

You have trouble because you try. Do not seek. Do not grasp. See the world for what it is.

I wouldn't recommend any medicine for relaxation. Although they do have cold medicine that makes you drowsy, but instead of meditating, that person would tip over and fall asleep. I would recommend red wine. My wife has always drank a glass or two to help her relax when she meets new people at a function or party. If that person doesn't drink alcohol, two sips from a glass may be more than enough. Hope this helps.
