of 100kph. ( two separate times ) There was no room for them to pass me or room for me to pull over to let them pass. I would like to hear from other road users or safety experts what is recommended in a case like this !! Should I speed up and exceed the speed limit to put distance between us or should I just hope that my car does not suffer a mechanical problem and be mincemeat under the following semi ?.

Just maintain your speed, and when the trucks have an opportunity to pass, they will. What you should NOT do in that situation is to hit your brakes .

I know that it seems like the trucks were "tailgating" you , and it probably makes you nervous. That's understandable. But from the truck drivers perspective, he has a very long vehicle so he is driving close behind you so that when he does have that opportunity to pass, he will only have to be in the opposing lane of traffic for as short a period of time as possible.

Definitely do not speed up as this is what these truckies want so they can get where they want to in the time limit they have. Sit on the speed limit and when it is safe and you either have a shoulder to pull over to let them through or a passing lane do so otherwise try to ignore them. I must admit this has not happened to me on the highway unless you are getting closer to Brisbane then they will try this. Most of the ones I have had following me are very good and do follow the correct distance behind. I had an idea that all trucks are supposed to have speed regulators on their trucks but then you have the few who don't. My suggestion is get their rego number and the company they work for if at all possible and report them when it is safe to do so. Hope this helps you out a bit but don't let them force you into making a mistake.

Al lot of that's user-friendly lack of expertise. Lot's of individuals do no longer probable "get it" while they are advised which you mst shelter a secure distance while at the back of oter automobiles of all varieties. yet one greater reason they tailgate enormous automobiles is "drafting" to shop gas. The winds at the back of a huge trck actuall be conscious some "pull" and can shop an truly small volume of gas whether it is not a secure prepare if there is any difficulty wit the truck you're at the back of. As for figuring out to purchase too close in front of a huge vehicle like a huge rig, that's basically user-friendly stupid. A loaded rig won't be in a position of end as rapidly as a vehicle. So zipping around a truck basically in time to diminish over to take your go out is easily no longer clever. If for any reason, you need to brake abruptly there's a great risk the truck will finally end up on spectacular of your vehicle!

U should never speed up! This could just lead to a horrific accident for ALL involved. Just sit on the speed that u r comfortable with especially if u cant pull over. Just remember...there is always the "shoulder" part of the road that u can pull off to.
