OK Thanks for the answers so far. Is there any circumstances, where a person would want to keep there number if they had lived outside the UK, or keep their mobile phone at all? Just the person Im speaking with says they have lived here for 10 years but they are originally from outside UK?

+234 is the international dialling code for Nigeria. A quick web search reveals that 02348 is not currently in use as a UK area code, so the number you've got is definitely Nigerian. Given the enormous amount of attempted fraud coming from that country at the moment, I'd be extremely wary of entering into any kind of financial transaction with the person you're in contact with. To maintain a Nigerian mobile in the UK would cost a fortune compared to buying a UK Pay As You Go number, so that sounds even more suspicious to me. You don't say why you're in touch with them, but if if they are asking you for money or your personal financial details, my advice would be just DON'T!

That dosent sound like a UK mobile number but the person could of bought a phone outside of the UK and bought it into this country, using a phone like that would be expensive and would probably be cheaper to buy one here even if for a short duration, so i would say that this person does not live in the UK

All mobile numbers start with 07 in the UK, and the country code is +44, so this is not a UK number.

The U.K code IS +44, but as for the rest of that number: 23480 most definately is not a U.K code, not an area code or mobile. Someone is pulling your leg mate!

no it is not and it doesn't seem to be a dial code for any other country I think they gave you the wrong number.
